Vegetable Stock from Scratch
I read about this great money saving kitchen tip on making your own stock. Save all those vegetable scraps you put in your compost. Instead, collect them in a half-gallon milk container and store in the freezer. When you have a couple of these full of veggie scraps make stock!
Simply slash open the boxes and place in a pot, add water, boil then simmer all day. Once it's done simmering for several hours strain with a sieve covered in cheesecloth. Don't forget to place an empty pot underneath to catch all that yummy broth. You're thinking, "duh", but I did forget but just for a second.
Free veggie stock, can you dig it? And you can compost the veggies even still. Talk about reuse and recycle!
